How do I monitor workflow runs?

Updated last monthSara AhlénAdmin settings

Every time a workflow executes, Velory records a run with step-by-step details. You can see which runs succeeded, which failed, and exactly what happened at each step.

Before you begin

You need Admin access. Navigate to Settings → Workflows and click on a workflow to see its runs.

View execution history

  1. Go to Settings → Workflows.
  2. Click on a workflow to open its detail page.
  3. The Recent Runs section shows all executions.

Each run displays:

ColumnWhat it shows
Run IDA unique identifier for this execution
StatusCompleted, Failed, Running, Waiting (for approval), or Cancelled
TriggeredWhen the run started
Triggered ByWhat event or user started the run

View run details

Click on any run to see the full execution breakdown:

  • Header — Run ID, status, timestamp, total duration, and error message (if failed)
  • Step timeline — A visual timeline showing each step in order, with its status, timing, and attempt number

For each step you can expand to see:

  • Input — The configuration and variables passed to the step
  • Output — The results returned (data created, notifications sent, etc.)
  • Error — Error message and details if the step failed
  • Duration — How long the step took

Run statuses

StatusWhat it means
CompletedAll steps executed successfully
FailedA step encountered an error — the workflow stopped at that point
RunningThe workflow is currently executing
WaitingThe workflow is paused at an approval step, waiting for a decision
CancelledThe run was manually cancelled or timed out

Good to know

How do I troubleshoot a failed run?

Open the run detail page and find the step with a Failed status. Expand it to see the error message and the input that was passed. Common causes include invalid template variables, missing permissions, or external service errors. Fix the workflow configuration and re-enable it.

How long is run history kept?

Run history is retained for auditing purposes. You can view past runs at any time from the workflow detail page.

Can I manually re-run a failed workflow?

You can trigger a new run by using the Test Run feature in the editor with the same trigger data, or by waiting for the trigger event to occur again. There is no "retry" button on a failed run — you need a new execution.

What does "Waiting" mean?

A run with Waiting status is paused at an approval step. It will resume automatically when the assigned person approves or rejects the request. You can see who the approval is assigned to in the step details.
