How do I follow a leaver's own offboarding progress?
In self-serve mode the departing employee gets a page of their own: they see what you decided for each device, confirm the returns, and submit. The Track employee step is your view of where they are in that.
It exists only in self-serve mode. An admin-handled offboarding has nobody to wait for, so the step is absent.
Before you begin
The step stays closed until you have confirmed the asset options — it has nothing to report before then, and says so: Once you've set up their options, their progress shows here.
The three milestones

The email goes out on its own only when Hand-back instructions for the leaver is switched on in Settings → General → Notifications, and it is off until an admin turns it on. While it is off, the step offers Send email, which sends the link now whatever the switch says, and Copy link, for sending it yourself. | Progressing | They have started. Once they confirm, the journey moves on to Collect returns, so there is no per-item list here — this step answers "are they done?", not "what did they say?".
If they do not respond
The offboarding does not silently resolve itself. A lapsed response leaves items waiting, and the practical options are to chase the person, copy their link and send it again, or re-open the asset step and switch the handling to resolve it yourself.
Good to know
Can I resend the link?
Yes. Send email on the step emails it again, and Copy link copies it so you can send it through another channel. That is worth knowing because the invite goes to their work email, not to any personal address you have recorded — so a leaver who has already lost their work account needs you to forward the link.
Why is the step empty when the employee has confirmed?
It is deliberately a progress view. What they decided shows on the asset step, and what they are handing back shows on Collect returns.
The employee has no assets
The journey says so plainly — No assets were assigned to them — and the project can close without any of this.
Can they change their mind after confirming?
Not from their side. Re-open the asset options step and change the disposition yourself.
Does the leaver still have access while this runs?
Yes. An employee being offboarded can still sign in, because they have their own part to complete. Access ends when their status becomes Inactive.
The step says they were never invited
Usually because the hand-back email is switched off for your company, which is the default — click Send email. Otherwise the email was skipped rather than retried because it could not be built: no email address on the record, no first name, or a notification service that is not configured. Copy the link and send it yourself.
