How do I import hardware from a file?
If you have a spreadsheet with your company's devices — for example, from another asset management tool or an internal inventory — you can import them into Velory in bulk by uploading a file.
In this guide
Before you begin
You need Admin access to import hardware. Prepare a file with one row per device and a header row with column names.
Start the import
- Go to Assets → Hardware.
- Click Add hardware in the top right.
- Select Import from file.
This opens the import wizard, which guides you through four steps.
Step 1: Upload your file
Drag and drop your file into the upload area, or click to browse.
The page shows a template with all supported columns and example values. You can download the template to use as a starting point for your file.
Step 2: Map columns
After uploading, you map the columns in your file to Velory's fields.
The system automatically matches columns based on their names — review the mapping and adjust as needed:
- Target field — the Velory field the data will go into
- File column — which column from your file to use (select from the dropdown)
- Sample data — a preview of the first rows from the selected column
If a column should not be imported, select Do not import from the dropdown.
Tip: Toggle First row is a header row if your file's first row contains data instead of column names.
Required fields are marked with an asterisk. The Next button is disabled until all required fields are mapped.
Step 3: Review
The review step shows a table of all rows that will be imported:
- A green badge shows how many rows are ready to import.
- A red badge shows how many rows have validation errors (if any).
Rows with errors are marked with a warning icon. Hover over the icon to see what is wrong (e.g. invalid date format, missing required field). You can still proceed — valid rows will be imported and invalid rows will be skipped.
Step 4: Processing
Click Import to start the import. The page shows real-time progress as devices are created:
- A progress bar with percentage
- A counter of processed devices
When the import finishes, you can view the results and go to the hardware list to see your new devices.

Good to know
How many devices can I import at once?
There is no hard limit. For very large files (thousands of rows), the import may take a few minutes. The progress bar keeps you informed.
What happens to rows with errors?
Invalid rows are skipped — only valid rows are imported. Review the errors in Step 3 and fix them in your file if needed, then re-import the corrected rows.
What state are imported devices set to?
Imported devices start in the Available for use state. You can change states individually or use bulk actions in the hardware list after import.
Can I undo an import?
There is no single undo button. To remove imported devices, select them in the hardware list and use the Delete bulk action.
